The Nation's Leading Provider of the Pillar Procedure

Our Philosophy

As an ENT doctor, I’ve taken care of people suffering from snoring and sleep apnea for close to 20 years. Overwhelmingly, what these patients shared was a sense of frustration. Frustration with doctors who didn’t understand that “just snoring” was a real problem in their lives, and frustration with the treatment options that were available to them if they had sleep apnea . Patients who “just snored” were typically sent home by their doctor, told that nothing was wrong, perhaps advised to lose weight or buy ear plugs for their bed-partner. Patients with sleep apnea were almost universally sold a CPAP machine and told that that was their only option. But when looked at from the patient’s perspective, neither of those approaches is good enough. Snoring (“just snoring”) is a HUGE issue in people’s lives. It causes arguments, lost sleep, less sex, and ruins many a relationship. If “just snoring” keeps you from sleeping with your spouse, or camping with your buddies, or traveling on business, there’s no “just” about it. You have a problem, and you deserve help. Similarly, sleep apnea is a real health risk. Patients with untreated sleep apnea have a higher risk of automobile and workplace accidents, decreased job performance, and higher rates of cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. These people need to be treated. And there is no argument that, if tolerated, CPAP has the highest success rate of any of the treatments currently available. But the fact is, most people either can’t, or won’t, wear it! The scientific literature clearly shows that after 1 year, CPAP compliance is less than 50%. So what are all these other people supposed to do? Actually, the better question is: What are we going to do for all these people?

The Snoring Center was founded upon a few simple beliefs:

  • That patients should have the right to understand all their treatment options, and choose those that are best for them.
  • That treatment options are only as good as people’s willingness to tolerate them.
  • That traditional surgical treatments (such as UPPP) do not have a high enough success rate to justify their risk, expense, and pain.
  • That rather than doing what the insurance company wants, we do what makes the most sense for each individual patient.
